This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform advanced diagnostic operations in the automotive retail, service and repair environment.

After achieving AUR40216 – Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis, students may undertake:

– AUR50216 – Diploma of Automotive Technology
– AUR50116 – Diploma of Automotive Management

Participants who exit this course at any time prior to completion will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency they have successfully achieved

The Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis provides advanced training for automotive technicians who want to further develop their diagnostic and technical skills. Job roles related to this qualification include Automotive lead or master technician and Automotive technical adviser.

  • Minimum age of 18 years and above at the time of application
  • Students undertaking the Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis must have completed an automotive mechanical Certificate III qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.
  • Have physical attributes suitable for working in the automotive industry that encompasses manual handling of equipment including lifting and carrying heavy objects within scope of safe working practices (i.e. removing and fitting engine electrical components and parts)

  1. Evidence that they have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States

  • Additionally, the learner is required to:Complete the Pre-Training ReviewIf the learner has done the Pre‐Training Review and LLN assessment previously at Innovative Institute of Australia Pty Ltd for a previous qualification in the same stream enrolment, then it is not required.
  • Complete the Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test prior to the commencement of the course.

All students are provided with the opportunity to have their prior learning and experience assessed and gain recognition for this. (Recognition of Prior Learning – RPL).
Students who have successfully completed whole units of competency included in this course with another RTO can apply for Credit Transfer. (CT)
The CT and RPL application processes are provided to students in pre-enrolment information in accordance with the RPL/ CT policy and procedure.

Students must successfully complete a total of 10 units of competency to achieve the AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis qualification. This comprises of 1 core unit and 9 elective units. The course units are indicated in the table below.

Innovative Institute of Australia Pty Ltd will deliver this qualification over a 30-week period. This will consist of scheduled Student Contact Hours (SCH) for 20 hours over 3 days per week for 26 weeks plus 4 weeks of term breaks. This takes into account Public holiday periods such as Christmas & Easter, and School holiday breaks.

As this is a 26 weeks program it is recommended that the program is delivered over 2 terms as identified below. There are breaks included in the 28 weeks of delivery as outlined below:

Upon successful completion of the 10 units of competency, students will be issued an AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis qualification and record of results that indicates the units successfully completed. Students who successfully complete some but not all of the units of competency in the course will be issued a Statement of Attainment detailing the units they have successfully completed.
