AUR40226 – Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis

Age Requirements
Students must be of 18 years of age to apply

Academic Requirements
Those undertaking the Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis must have completed an automotive mechanical Certificate
III qualification, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency.

Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to work in the automotive industry, including safely lifting, carrying, and handling heavy equipment and parts (such as removing and installing engine electrical components).

English Proficiency Requirements

To enroll in the course at Innovative Institute, applicant must meet one of the following English language proficiency standards equivalent to an IELTS (General or Academic Overall) 6.0 with no individual band score less than 5.0.

Note:

• Results older than two years are not acceptable (for offshore applicants).
• For Level 1 countries students, they successfully complete Language, Literacy, Numeracy, and Digital skills (LLND) Test administered by Innovative Institute of Australia

After achieving AUR40226 – Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical
Diagnosis, students may undertake: AUR50216 – Diploma of Automotive Technology Or AUR50116 – Diploma of Automotive Management

Exit Pathway :
Students obtaining a competency for all units in this course will be awarded the full qualification AUR40226 – Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis, including certificate and Record of results. Students not obtaining a competent result for all units in this course or leaving the course in middle will receive a Statement of Attainment. Indicating the actual number of units, they achieve competency

Students completing AUR40226 – Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis may enter into workplace or continue current roles:

• Automotive lead technician
• Automotive technical adviser
• Automotive Master Technician
• Overhaul Technician

The course spans 30 weeks, including scheduled term breaks. Students are required to attend 20 hours of classes/practical sessions per week, which include face-to-face instruction, simulated practical learning, and supervised assessment activities.

Independent study, such as homework, reading, or online research done at home, does not count toward the 20-hour requirement

• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL): A formal assessment process that evaluates your existing skills and experience—gained through work, training, or life—to determine if you meet the requirements of specific course units.
• Credit Transfer: A process that grants recognition for equivalent units previously completed at other registered training organisations, without the need for reassessment. Students who have completed corresponding units of competency and/or units contained within the packaging rules can apply for Credit Transfer.

These processes are conducted in line with the Standards for RTOs 2025, specifically Standard 1.6 and 1.7, and are available to all eligible students.

We ensure a transparent, supportive, and efficient pathway to help you achieve your goals sooner.

Assessment methods used will be one or more of:

• Practical demonstrations: Showing skills in servicing, diagnostics, and repairs.
• Written tests: Short-answer or multiple-choice questions on theory and safety.
• Workplace observation: Assessors watch students perform tasks in real or simulated settings.
• Projects/assignments: Case studies, repair reports, or diagnostic exercises.

All in-person sessions are conducted at one of the following Innovative Institute of Australia campuses:

• Main Campus: 1A Palmerston Grove, Oakleigh, VIC 3166
• Automotive Workshop: 1/68 Fenton Street, Huntingdale, VIC 3166

Students will be notified of their designated campus location prior to the commencement of classes.

Students must successfully complete a total of 10 units of competency to achieve the AUR40226 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis qualification. This comprises of 1 core unit and 9 elective units. The course units are indicated in the table below.
