If you hold a student visa, you must have OSHC unless an exemption applies. Your cover must start on or before your arrival in Australia and continue until your visa expires. Family members joining you on student visas also need cover.
OSHC helps pay for doctor visits, hospital treatment, ambulance services and some medicines. It may not cover all costs. Dental, optical and physiotherapy services usually require extra cover. Check the benefits, limits and waiting periods before choosing a policy.
Some students from Belgium, Norway or Sweden may qualify for an exemption. Check with the Department of Home Affairs.
You can purchase OSHC from an approved insurer or contact our Student Services Office for help. If you extend your student visa, extend your cover too.
